Last updated 1 October 2026 · applies to the Lantern Alley web app and this website.

Lantern Alley has no accounts and does not ask who you are. Here is everything it keeps and everything it sends.

Kept on your device

Your progress — words learned, money, your home, settings — is saved in your browser's local storage on your device. It is not sent to us. Clearing your browser data, or using Menu → Start over, deletes it. Export save makes a file only you hold.

Sent when you post feedback

When you post on the feedback board (or from the game's Feedback button), we store:

Posts are stored with Cloudflare (our host), in a database only we can access. We may hide posts that are abusive, spam, or contain personal details. To have a post or your email removed, ask on the feedback board and say which post — we will remove it.

Optional anonymous test data

Test builds of the game can send anonymous progress events (for example "finished the Entrance") so we can see where players get stuck. These never include your answers, never record your screen, and are not tied to who you are. They can be turned off in the game under Menu → About. When this is switched on, the events go to PostHog, an analytics service. In the current build it is not active.

Other services the pages load

Kon's voice and all game audio are recorded files that ship with the game; nothing you say or type is sent anywhere to be spoken.

Children

Lantern Alley is a language-learning game for teenagers and adults studying for JLPT N2. It does not ask for anyone's age or identity. Please do not include personal details in feedback posts.
